Digital
Cameras & JPG Files
Normally,
we take original photos before digital pictures. However,
if you are providing pictures from a digital camera, please
ensure that your camera's mode is set to the highest quality
possible. Please email one attached picture sample to production@americanlive.com
to see if your digital photos will be usable. Please keep
in mind that graphics used on web sites are at a much lower
resolution than graphics for print. On-screen graphics, such
as web graphics, are at 72 dpi, while the images we use need
to be at 300 dpi to reproduce properly. If an image is too
small to begin with, many times it cannot be enlarged to the
desired size because of image degradation, which appears in
the form of small blocks or blurry. The filters that are used
to smooth these image defects often remove fine details. It
is complicated to clean up improperly sized images and almost
every time is in vain, as the images still do not have the
quality needed to represent the client in a professional and
high-quality manner.
Pre-Press
& Camera Ready
We
prefer any camera-ready ads to be on disk in TIF or EPS format
with fonts and graphics embedded.
This
is also how we send out our design work. We can accept program
files from Illustrator 10.0, Photoshop 6.0, and Quark XPress
4.0 providing used fonts and images are supplied.
Images should be at 300 dpi in CMYK mode. JPGs are not accepted
usually due to their poor reproduction on print. Some exceptions
can be made for higher quality JPGs, however as a general
rule of thumb, we suggest to avoid sending JPGs.
Negatives must be right reading, emulsion side down at 150
lpi
An additional 1/8" on all sides is required for ads with
bleeds
Don't
forget to order OVERRUNS & REPRINTS
of your ads to use to promote your farm or ranch!
